Tasting Notes

So perfumed and floral with bright black cherries and citrus, following through to a full-bodied yet very tight and intense palate. Compact and beautiful. Slightly austere at the end. This needs time to open and soften. Try after 2023.""

These 2018 Barbarescos from La Spinetta are just terrific. The 2018 Barbaresco Valeirano Vürsù (with 7,000 bottles made) completes this line with its fruit from the village of Treiso. This wine is less etched and sharp than the others, and it exhibits a rich and more fleshed-out approach with greater volume. There is plenty of dark fruit and shades of cherry, but a lasting impression is made by spice, licorice and balsam herb.""

The 2018 Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano is especially fine. As always, the Valeirano is a classically austere Barbaresco, but that side of its personality is less evident in 2018 than it has been in the past, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. All the elements are so nicely balanced.""

From a plot of 55-year-old vines in Neive, this wine exhibits ripe black-cherry flavors tinged with earthy tones and framed by firm, mineral tannins. Notes of dusky spice emerge with air, balanced by hints of tobacco leaf.""
Light ruby red with hints of pink grapefruit, eucalyptus and white pepper. Rrich and structured on the palate, with light notes of balsamic and spice. A broad and persistent finish, with well-structured, soft tannins
La Spinetta is a family-owned winery located in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy. The winery was founded in 1977 by Giuseppe and Lidia Rivetti, and today it is run by their three sons: Carlo, Bruno, and Giorgio. La Spinetta's vineyards cover a total of 165 hectares, with most of the vines located in the Langhe area. The winery produces a wide range of wines, including Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba, Moscato d'Asti, and various white wines.
In 1997 La Spinetta finalized the purchased of the Valeirano vineyards, which are located in the municipality of Treiso. This vineyard’s soil is mainly of marine origin, similarly of those in the Serralunga d’Alba area. Barbaresco Valeirano is an elegant wine. The soils at Valeirano are very similar to those from Serralunga which results in a Barbaresco which has some deep links to Barolo. This Barbaresco cru is characterized by great longevity and minerality.
