Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright straw yellow with attractive clarity. The wine retains a fresh, youthful appearance consistent with its stainless-steel vinification.
Aroma: Fresh and fruit-driven, with pronounced notes of Golden apple, pear and yellow plum, complemented by delicate floral nuances and touches of citrus. The aromatic profile is clean and expressive rather than dominated by oak.
Palate: Dry, fresh and harmonious, with juicy apple, pear and yellow-fruit flavours balanced by lively acidity. The texture is smooth and relatively rounded while remaining refreshing, with a clean, soft finish. Its style emphasizes freshness, fruit purity and drinkability rather than the butter, vanilla and toast associated with heavily oaked Chardonnay.
Description
Corte Giara Chardonnay 2022 is a dry white wine produced from 100% Chardonnay in Veneto, northeastern Italy, under the Chardonnay Veneto IGT designation. Corte Giara was established in 1989 as a project associated with the renowned Allegrini wine family, with the aim of producing high-quality, accessible wines for everyday enjoyment.
The Chardonnay comes from the Veronese hillside area of Veneto. Producer material identifies this as an elevated vineyard zone at approximately 180–250 metres above sea level, while more recent information describes well-drained, stony morainic hillside soils.
The winemaking is designed to preserve Chardonnay's freshness and aromatic fruit. The grapes are harvested and subjected to cold maceration, followed by fermentation under controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matures for approximately four months in stainless steel, followed by further bottle ageing before release. This largely unoaked approach helps explain its clean, fresh and fruit-focused character.
In the glass, Corte Giara Chardonnay 2022 displays a straw-yellow colour and an aromatic profile centred on apple, pear and yellow plum, together with subtle floral and citrus notes. On the palate it is harmonious and approachable, balancing ripe fruit with refreshing acidity and a smooth texture.
Unlike richer New World or barrel-fermented Chardonnay styles, Corte Giara emphasizes freshness and varietal fruit rather than oak influence. Its stainless-steel maturation allows the apple, pear, citrus and floral characteristics to remain prominent, making it particularly suitable as an aperitif or with seafood, sushi, fish and lighter dishes.
Corte Giara itself has a significant connection with the Allegrini family, one of Veneto's established wine-producing families. The Corte Giara project began in 1989 and has developed into a range encompassing both traditional Veneto varieties and international grapes such as Chardonnay. The producer continues to list Chardonnay Veneto IGT as part of its core range today.
At 13% alcohol, the 2022 Corte Giara Chardonnay offers a straightforward but well-made expression of Veneto Chardonnay: fresh, clean and approachable, with attractive pear, apple and yellow-fruit character, floral accents and enough acidity to make it particularly food-friendly.
